Mark 1: 14-20

After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee preaching the Message of God: “Time’s up! God’s kingdom is here. Change your life and believe the Message.”

Passing along the beach of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew net-fishing. Fishing was their regular work. Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.” They didn’t ask questions. They dropped their nets and followed.

A dozen yards or so down the beach, he saw the brothers James and John, Zebedee’s sons. They were in the boat, mending their fishnets. Right off, he made the same offer. Immediately, they left their father Zebedee, the boat, and the hired hands, and followed.

Prayer

Lord,

Help us to hear you. In our struggles, help us find your guidance.

Let us hear your calling to follow you as one of your disciples.

Amen

Reflection

God is constantly talking to us and guiding us as we walk through life. Sometimes though we run ahead, away from God and we don’t believe he’s there with us. Sometimes it takes a sign from God to remind us that he is there.

Here we see people working and doing their jobs. They were ordinary people that were just getting by like most of us do every day. Some days we ask God for help and aren’t willing to listen. However sometimes we don’t need to ask and God is there to help us. We just need to follow him. God is calling all of us to follow him and be his disciples.

What kind of disciple are you being called to be?
